Hello Windows 10, nice to meet you! Should you upgrade?

Picture of Windows 10 Unless you've been living under a rock you've probably heard that Windows 10 was released today. It's the successor to the not so well received Windows 8 (Yes, Microsoft decided to just skip right on by 9). Of course being the geeks that we are, we've been playing around and testing Windows 10 in preview mode for quote a few months now and we're pretty exciting about the release. It brings together the best of Windows 7 and Windows 8 and makes for a really great and secure operating system. With the big release upon us and with Microsoft giving away the new operating system for free to all Windows 7 & 8 users, we've been getting the question "Should I upgrade?" quite a bit. Here's our response. If you're slightly techie, don't depend on your computer for work and love being on the cutting edge then go for it. We've found the operating system to be very stable and fun to use thus far. Their are a few quirks here and there but overall our experience has been very positive. If you're a business or home user we recommend that you hold off on upgrading for about six months or so. The upgrade is going to be free for a full year so there's no point in jumping in right away. Generally, with most major releases there are always a few bugs to work out and giving a new release a few months in the wild for those bugs to come to light and get fixed is usually a good idea. For businesses, it's even more important to hold off on upgrading. You always want to make sure that you've fully tested a new operating system in your production environment before making any kind of change. Planning is always key!Windows 10 is packed with some great new features and functionality (we're loving Cortana, the Edge browser, Virtual Desktops, Continuum and more..) but rather than go over everything again, here are a couple great links that explain the operating system and the cool new features that come along with it.The 10 Coolest Windows 10 Features You Should Check Out FirstWindows 10 Review and Hands OnWindows 10 Quickstart GuideIf you additional questions about Windows 10 we'd be happy to help you out, just shoot us an email or give us a call. Want Bellingham IT blog updates to hit your email?
